9:00 The Mentalist (CBS)

• Simon Barker is Patrick Jane, who has a semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium, and is now an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation.

I'm intrigued, but also reminded of another show involving a psychic and law enforcement, yes I'll concede that there are differences in the details, but overall is this just a copy of USA's Psych? I'm not sure if the scene above completely sold me, but this fascinating mind game did, at least enough to watch the pilot:

I am also reminded of an old book series I used to read where the solutions to the cases were all in the details: Encyclopedia Brown. My love for those books may be enough to make me watch this series all season, we shall see...

10:00 Law & Order: SVU (NBC)

Luke Perry (90210) will not be returning to the new 90210 (or so he keeps saying causing me great anger, but I still have my *fingers crossed*) He will, however, be on the small screen this week, guest starring on the season premiere of Law & Order: SVU. He and his wife, played by Julie Bowen (Lost, Weeds) are accused of abusing their foster child for medical testing. At the very least I'll be tuning in to see what 90210 is missing...

Get off your high horse Luke Perry and just do a freaking episode!
